The Potato River Intrusive is part of the 1.1 billion year old Mellen Intrusive Complex. It is dominantly dark anothositic gabbros. A good place to see this is in a large road cut on the east side of Highway 13 just north of Mellen. This is also the body exposed in the Loon Lake Quarries to the east.
