A small tin mine, whose sett adjoins that of New Balleswidden Mine to the north. It was started as Wheal Fortune in 1778, but seems to have been worked only sporadically. It was re-opened in 1845 and in 1861, when its name was changed to West Wheal Metal. In 1880, it was re-opened again as East Botallack Mine. In 1891, the sett was included with New Balleswidden Mine, but no further development was carried out beyond this date. The mine is also believed to have been worked for some time under the name Alexandra Mine.

The sett extended on both sides of the Penzance-St Just road (A3071) and contained at least two SE-trending lodes which were opened up by shafts on the north side of the road. Although this area is densely overgrown, some shaft mounds are still recognized.

The only recorded output for this mine is for 6 tons of black tin between 1881 and 1885.
