Once an individual mine, which was early included with the Nangiles Mine. Hamilton Jenkin notes, that they worked under the name "Nangiles and Bread & Cheese Mine" in 1808. The coordinates mark the engine house ruin which is situated at the western boundary of the Nangiles Mine sett.
Bread & Cheese Shaft lies immediately adjacent the Carnon River where the course of the former Redruth & Chacewater railway crosses the river.
The shaft was fitted with a concrete collar probably in conjunction with the development of the Wheal Jane and Mount Wellington mines in the late 1960's / early 1970's.
