Gebiet Plattenscharte - Mitterkopf, Schönachtal, Gerlostal, Zillertal, Nordtirol, Tirol, Österreich

Scree at around 2500 m a.s.l. with piemontite-bearing pale reddish rocks.
Access via Pasteinalm - Keeskarscharte - "Keesriedel".
The Mitterkopf (2533 m) is located NE of the Steinkarkopf.

In the upper Schönach and Wimmer valleys, piemontite occurs as dark red grains and prismatic crystals in a conspicuous pink (quartz-)micaschist hosted by pale greenish micaschists of the 'Untere Schieferhülle' (Schmidegg, 1963; Purtscher, 1964). This piemonite-bearing, approximately 10 m thick micaschist layer crosses the ridge between the two valleys approximately in an E-W direction. Schmidegg (1963) specifically mentions the "Plattenkar" and the side ridge that extends from the Graue Köpfe to the Mitterkopf.
See also Grundhütte locality in Wimmer valley.
