Frances Creek is a small iron ore mine located about 16 km (10 miles) ESE of Burrundie and 200km south of Darwin near the township of Pine Creek and 15km from the Adelaide-Darwin rail line.

The mine was originally worked between 1966 - 1974 before it was reopened in may 2007 by Territory Resources Limited. The first shipment of iron ore to China was made in September 2007 – the first iron ore shipment from the Port of Darwin in more than 30 years.

Ore is mined from a series of open pits using conventional drill, blast, hydraulic excavator and truck methods and then crushed into a lump or fines product specification, transported to a rail siding and then loaded onto trains for transportation to the Company’s stockyard at Darwin Port.

The total Probable Ore Reserves at Frances Creek as at 30 June 2010 is 5.69 million tonnes grading 57.8% Fe, 0.10% P, 8.8% SiO2 and 3.5% Al2O3. Mine life is expected to continue at the current rate of production - 2 mtpa - until 2013.
