Oxidized Carbonaceous Chondrite (CV3 ox-B), S3.
Recovered weight: ca. 980 g

On the 22nd or 23 November 1907 the Bali Carbonaceous Chondrite fell near the Bali mission in the country then called Cameroun. CV (Vigarano-like) meteorites are distinguished by large chondrules, (relatively) large refractory inclusions and abundant matrix as well as by their defining elemental abundance and oxygen isotope ratios. The refractory inclusions are believed to have been among the earliest solid objects created out of the ancient Solar Nebula. Bali is a somewhat unusual member of oxidized subgroup of the CV meteorites [which include the larger Allende, Grosnaja, Mokoia, and Kaba]. Among Bali’s small — often conspicuously white — inclusions are some complex spinel-melilite-pyroxene-anorthite assemblages. These assemblages are believed to record especially significant alteration processes during the Solar System's planetismal formation period. Indeed, one is much more likely to see an article discussing ‘Bali-like’ inclusions in other meteorites than an article devoted mostly or entirely to Bali.
