Köppen climate type:
At Nkana South Orebody the typical succession starts with a 0–4 m thick alteration zone of laminated to massive tremolitic shales or schists and dense silicified shales. This so-called Contact Shale has no stratigraphical significance and is an alteration zone at the base of the South Orebody Shale, a 5–20 m thick finely laminated black carbonaceous shale, which is in turn capped by the 5–12 m dark grey massive argillites of the Hangingwall Argillite. These rocks have been metamorphosed to upper greenschist facies.
