Skarn and quartz vein-type tungsten deposit.
Nanyangtian W-skarns are generally km-scale bedded and lenticular in the Pt3M. Group. They are spatially related with feldspar-bearing quartz veins, both of which are roughly developed along the direction of foliations, and have coeval fold deformations with wall rocks. Mengdong Group mainly consists of shallow metamorphic mica schist, tourmaline quartzite, interbedded granulite, plagioclase amphibolite schist, plagioclase gneiss, graphite-bearing quartz amphibolite, and epidote diopside actinolite skarn. W-skarns are composed of light-gray-green, bedded to massive (garnet-bearing) diopside skarn, garnet skarn, and small amounts of phlogopite skarn, which are characterized by the dominant disseminated scheelites.
Pegmatites can be divided into four stages: (i) early residual or phenocrystic plagioclases (NYT-I stage) within feldspar-bearing quartz veins, (ii) calc-silicates (NYT-II stage) of pyroxene (NYT-IIPyro), garnet (NYT-IIGrt) and scheelite (NYT-IISch), (iii) feldspar-bearing quartz veins (NYT-III stage) with tourmaline (NYT-IIITur) and scheelite (NYT-IIISch), (iv) sulfides of pyrite (NYT-IVPy), chalcopyrite (NYT-IVCcp), pyrrhotine (NYT-IVPo) within quartz veins.
As of 2024, the Nanyangtian deposit hosts proven WO3 reserves exceeding 300,000 tons, with an average grade of ∼ 0.43%. Corresponding to skarn, three layers of W mineralization can be observed in the Nanyangtian Formation. The W ore bodies exhibit a general NE strike with SE dip angles of 3°–11°, extending for ∼ 4 km in a N-S direction and spanning ∼ 2 km along the E-W direction.
The mineralization process of Nanyangtian can be divided into two episodes: the early skarn episode and the late quartz-scheelite vein episode. Among them, the skarn episode can be further divided into 3 stages, including the prograde skarn stage, the retrograde skarn stage and the quartz-sulfide stage. Prograde skarn stage is characterized by the presence of high temperature and anhydrous minerals, such as garnet, wollastonite, vesuvianite, and diopside. Retrograde skarn stage is the major mineralization stage in the skarn episode, which mainly comprises chlorite, epidote, actinolite, tremolite, wollastonite and abundant scheelite. The quartz-scheelite vein stage is characterized by the mineral assemblages of scheelite (Sch D) and quartz. Scheelite mineralization in this stage manifests as two distinct types: quartz-scheelite veins (Sch D-1) and pure scheelite veinlets (Sch D-2).
