The country rock is amphibolite and garnet amphibolite with minor impure crystalline limestone. The shaft is 6 by 9 feet and is reported to be 43 feet deep. The waste rock that surrounds the shaft includes amphibolite, some of which contains epidote or garnet and epidote, and impure crystalline limestone.
Also present is a massive red garnet rock carrying much chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite. The association of rocks suggests that the red garnet rock is a skarn developed at the contact between the crystalline limestone and the amphibolite. The occurrence appears to be a relatively small pod or mass of the red garnet rock.

"On lot 124, concession B, Lount township, on the north side of the road to
Many Island lake, two-fifths of a mile west of the Nipissing road, a pit 30 by 10 feet exposes hornblende gneiss. No magnetite was found. On the north side of the same road, seven-tenths of a mile from the Nipissing road, a 5- by 5-foot shallow pit exposes rusty-weathering garnet-hornblende rock containing a little disseminated magnetite and pyrite."
