Zeche Hibernia, Gelsenkirchen, Ruhr-Kohlerevier, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Deutschland
A coal mine, started in 1855. Production commenced in 1858 and continued with minor interruptions until 1925. The coal reserves remaining at greater depth were mined since 1938 by the adjoining mines Consolidation, Dahlbusch and Pluto.
The mine became known for several serious accidents that occurred in the late 19th century. In 1872, it had to be flooded after a fire broke out underground. In 1887, a methane explosion killed 52 miners, and another 57 were killed in a coal dust explosion in 1891.
