The Shuiyuesi gold deposit is hosted by the Kongling complex in the northern Huangling region, including the Mesoarchean TTG gneiss, Archean paragneiss and amphibolite, and Paleoproterozoic metasedimentary rocks (mainly biotite granulite, quartzite, marble, and graphite-mica schist). The Shuiyuesi gold deposit is characterized by high-Au grade (an average grade of 7.16 g/t and a maximum recorded grade of 365 g/t) but low-As ores among the global Neoproterozoic orogenic gold deposits and abundant Au–Te minerals. As of 2010, its proven reserves exceeded 1.5 tonnes Au. The Shuiyuesi gold deposit hosts 26 ore bodies, ranging from tens to over a thousand meters in length, with an average thickness of approximately 1 m. The ore bodies are characterized by vein and lenticular shapes, striking NW- and NNW-, dipping NE-ward at angles between 45° and 70°.
