The basalt temples/caves at Ellora (an archaeological site, 29 km (18 mi) northwest of the city of Aurangabad) were carved out of basalt hills during the 5th to 10th centuries. Since the management at Mindat wants to make sure our localities are mineral-oriented, besides the minerals in the basalts I encountered several small amygdaloidal pockets of zeolites and related minerals in the walls of the various temples here and though the contents were well hand-polished with centuries of grimy fingers that had rubbed the crystals in the pockets, I was able to identify with a reasonable degree of certainty, apophyllite.
