On the eastern border of this farm crystals are found in rugged terrain, in gullies running towards the Orange River. Host rock is pink gneisses & granite of the Namaqualand metamorphic suite with many pegmatite bands running east-west. Pale to dark amethyst quartz was mined sporadically on Gaidip farm prior to the major finds of the late 1990's.
