Inactive underground mine (now a "visitors mine") for marl (soft chalk) in the center of Valkenburg.
The quarry was mined in the Emael Limestone and the Nekum Limestone, both part of the Maastricht Formation.
In the quarry, a valley wall fracture with a clear offset can be seen in several places.
