Tazouta is a town in whose broader vicinity aragonite specimens are found. The site where these aragonites occur has often been mistakenly referred to as the Tazouta mine, although no actual mining activity has ever taken place there (information from Rock Currier and Peter Seroka). For this reason, the designation Tazouta diggings is more accurate when referring to this prolific locality from which these aragonite specimens originate.

In earlier literature and on some older specimen labels, the locality may also appear under the names Tagnaneit or Takaneit.

At certain times of the year, a small stream flows near the site, providing a convenient source of water for cleaning mud and clay from newly collected specimens.
