This mine worked a NE-trending antimony lode that crops out in the cliff near Pentire farm. Further inland, the lode runs from slates (killas) into greenstones, where it splits into a number of quartz veinlets that follow joints in the host rock. The workings consist of an adit driven southwards from the base of the cliff and a shaft (Whim Shaft) connecting to it at 66 fms from the entrance. There are three other shafts that do not connect to the adit, but are connected to Whim Shaft at shallow levels. The grid reference marks the approximate position of the adit portal.
This mine is one of the oldest in the district. It was started around 1580 and was worked intermittently until 1857. The only recorded output is for 34 tons of 58% lead ore in 1846.
