Abandoned Mn mine. Mining concession no. 53 registered on 12-04-1869. Closed ~ 1980.

The Lagoas do Paço deposit consists of two manganese-bearing veins. These veins are mainly composed of a heterogeneous mixture of manganese oxides, possibly derived from carbonates through weathering, together with jasper and quartz, with xenolithic enclaves and schist fragments.
In smaller proportions, ochre-like material, feldspars, and rhodochrosite are present, as well as chloritic mica and specularite. The veins are cut in all directions by calcite veinlets.
It is observed that the ore has a reasonably high manganese content and relatively low silica content. Sulfur, which was reported as elevated in a previous analysis, is only present in trace amounts in many other analyses.
(After: Silva, Fernando José da; Moura, José Eduardo da Costa - Jazigo de Manganês de Lagoas do Paço. Estudos, Notas e Trabalhos do Serviço de Fomento Mineiro, Vol. XIII, Fasc. 1/2, Porto, 1958.)
