The name Bou Almaden is derived from Arabic ‏المعادن‎ بو/ bou al-maʿādin / which literally means “place of minerals or place of ore”.
Bou Almaden is situated 4 km SW of the village of Mibladen, 1.5 km S of the Oued Adeghoudal and 3 km N of the town of Midelt. It is the westernmost substitution deposit within fine-grained carbonatic rocks (dolomites and limestones) with an abundance of baryte and fossils.
