Strzelce Opolskie

The Triassic limestone quarry in Strzelce Opolskie unveiled four layers of Muschelkalk limestone. Gogolin Beds, Górażdże Beds, Terebratula Beds and Karchowice Beds. In this section we will find rocks for millions of years in the form of diverse marine life. There are, mainly brachiopods, bivalvias, crinoids and sea urchin fragments. Guiding mineral in these rocks is calcite, often protean crystallization. At the close contact we meet pyrite and other minerals ferruginous varieties. With sea sponges and chalcedony content in their bodies have led to the Chert nodules composed primarily of chalcedony and quartz, also colored iron compounds.

On these rocks locally arrears tertiary and quaternary sediments mixed with rocks origin Sudetenland, Scandinavian and local material. There is also an origin of Jurassic and Cretaceous flints and petrified wood from the Permo-Carboniferous and probably also from the Cretaceous.

Such a large mixing these different deposits, among other things, caused by glaciation that took place in these areas and others not yet fully known turbulent past.
