A quartz pocket was found on May 12, 2009, on the east side of the southbound lane of Autoroute 5.
Subsequently, more quartz was found around the original "pocket". All of these crystals have the same geological origin. The crystals have a distinctive "melted candle" appearance as they formed from a melt in contact with calcite intrusions. The occurrence is larger than the original small pocket which subsequent to further construction no longer exists.
At the top of the road cut there are silico-carbonatite dykes containing large richterite crystals as well as other minerals.
