This famous site for anatase crystals on quartz crystals is protected and collecting is strictly forbidden.

Clusters of transparent quartz crystals dusted with blue-black bipyramidal, sharp 5-10 mm large anatase crystals were typical specimens found at this site especially in the 1970s. The localitity is today considered exploited. It is located near Mt. Matskorhæ, east of the Ringedalsvatnet Lake, outside the border of the Hardangervidda National Park. It is also located within the Ullensvang Statsalmenning (statsalmenning = a government forest and mountain common land with certain laws and rules for the use of the land). The area covered by the former Ullensvang statsalmenning is divided by both Ullensvang and Odda municipalities (kommuner), and Matskorhæ is located within the Ullensvang municipality. It was nicknamed "Grisebingen" (= the pig pen) by Norwegian collectors, due to the dirty working conditions at the locality.

Some specimens have earlier been been labelled "Matskorhæ, Ullensvang, Hardangervidda".
Ullensvang is here referring to the Statsalmenning, and not the municipality (kommune).

The coordinates are for the peak of Matskorhæ Mt.

Detailed Mineral List:

ⓘ Albite
Formula: Na(AlSi3O8)
✪ Anatase
Formula: TiO2
Habit: Tetragonal bipyramids {111}, embedded in the surface of quartz crystals. Very rare with basal pinacoids has been observed.
Colour: Transparent deep blue to opaque balck with metallic lustre
Description: The largest known crystals found on quartz are 8-9 mm. One incomplete crystal of 13 mm long is found, but found in a cavity in the phyllite Some of the best (might be the best?) groups of anatase crystals on quartz were found here. The Mineralogical Museum of Oslo have some large groups on exchibittion, a must see for anybody visiting Oslo!
ⓘ Brookite
Formula: TiO2
Habit: Platy up to 5mm long crystals with a black longitudinal median stripe
Colour: redbrown
Description: Red-brown crystals to 0,5 cm.
ⓘ 'Chlorite Group'
Description: Occurs in some cavities in the phyllite breccia
ⓘ 'Manganese Oxides'
Description: Thin black coating on quartz. Can be removed by gently scrubbing with tooth brush
ⓘ Molybdenite
Formula: MoS2
ⓘ Pyrite
Formula: FeS2
ⓘ Quartz
Formula: SiO2
Habit: long-prismatic. All crystals shows only the hexagonal prism {1010}, the rhombohedrons {1011} and {0111}. Occasionally also trigonal pyramid {11 21} and trigonal trapezohedron {5161}
Colour: colorless, clear (from the vugs), smokey (from the breccia and vein)
Description: A magnificent japan law twin has been found. It is illustrated in STEIN 26(2) p. 61. The largest crystal found: 15cm long and 5 cm in diameter. Crystals 5-10 cm long and 1-2 cm in diameter were common.
ⓘ Rutile
Formula: TiO2
Habit: Hairlike crystals to 1,5 cm long
Description: Found in cavities in the phyllite
