Kimberlite pipe of the Orapa/Letlhakane Kimberlite district, was found by De Beers in 1969 but was initially thought to be small and low grade. Reassessed in 2003 revealed that the kimberlite was larger and of a higher grade than previously estimated by De Beers. In 2015 three large diamonds were recovered, including one at 1,111 carats making it at the time the second-largest gem diamond ever found. This was however surpassed in 2019 with the discovery of a 1,758 diamond later sold to the Louis Vuitton brand. In 2021 a 1174 carat stone was recovered and in August 2024 a 2,492 carat diamond was found making this the second largest gem-quality diamond in the world.
