The Ardakan barite deposit is located in the central part of the Yazd Block. The area of the Ardakan barite deposit is a highly tectonized and faulted terrane. The discovery of the Ardakan barite deposit apparently dates back to 1975. The proven reserve of this deposit is stated to be 705,000 tons, of which 365,000 tons have been mined and 340,000 tons remain. The barite mineralization occurred stratabound in the carbonate rocks of the Middle Triassic Shotori Formation in a 5 km long section, in which there are eight barite outcrops where quarries are established.
