"Copper was discovered here early in 1863 and the Hillman Mine was opened and worked by landowner, John Hillman. Later in the year in the hands of the tributers the mine was renamed Wheal Elizabeth. The distinct lodes were worked and many tons of ore were sold. No work is recorded in 1865 but in 1866 a company took it up and renamed it Eskean. Work ceased within the year due to the flooding of the workings. A new company was formed in 1871 and reopened the mine calling it East Nairne. A number of men were employed under Captain Semmens and work continued to mid 1872. Undergoing a further name change it became the Ding Dong in 1903 and was worked in 1903-1905 and 1909-1910."
