Mina Umbria da Preguiça, Monte do Álamo, Sobral da Adiça, Moura, Distrito de Beja, Portugal
Fe mine. Mining concession no. 363, registered on 26-06-1903 (LNEG).
Included in the Preguiça-Vila Ruiva mining field (mining concessions 363 628 629 630).
The Umbria da Preguiça mine was registered on September 12, 1809, for iron, lead, and other metals. From the mine survey, it was concluded that it had industrial value, and the concession area was demarcated, totaling 50 hectares. The mine concession was definitively granted on June 20, 1903, and the surveys recognized a deposit of hematite of considerable value. A shaft and a gallery were opened from the ravine to intersect the deposit along its axis until reaching the shaft. The surface ore was quite siliceous, so open-pit mining was not planned. On July 9, 1939, the suspension of mine exploitation was requested due to unfavorable market conditions.
