Thabazimbi is located about 260 km northwest of Johannesburg in the Waterberg District of the Limpopo Province, South Africa. To the east of the town, are hills that consist of Transvaal Supergroup comprising Malmani dolomite and Penge Iron Formation lithologies that host the iron ore deposits.

An opencast & underground iron mine. Stratabound orebodies, on average 18-25 m thick, are predominantly composed of martite and microplaty hematite. Goethite is restricted to supergene-modified ores. At depth, the high-grade hematite ores interfinger with low-grade dolomite-hematite and calcite-hematite ores.

In the 1950s an adit called Mostert was driven into the side of the mountain leading to the discovery of a cave 110 metres long by 40 metres wide. Access is sealed.

Owned by the 'Kumba Iron Ore' company. As of September 2015, the mine closed down.
