The Chah Khouni mine, about 50 kilometres east-northeast of Anarak is characterized by polymetallic gold mineralization. The mine was co-operated in late 1936-37 by the Persian Pahlavi dynasty and the German Reich and lasted till mid-September 1941 when German engineers and technicians were forced to leave Iran just before the Anglo-Soviet invasion. Mining resumed after World War II, following the re-establishment of diplomatic relations in October 1953. Operations finally ceased by the early 1960s due to low ore grade.

The host rock is a tectonized dolomitic marble of the Anarak metamorphites. The oxidized zone is represented by dolomitized breccia with remnants of minerals like chalcopyrite, galena, pyrite, sphalerite, and magnetite. The ore deposits are confined to two groups of fractures, those with a northwest strike that dip to the northeast and those with a northeast strike that dip towards the southeast. The mineralized patches of the fault zones have been worked out by prospectors. These minor workings are narrow cuts, oriented along the fractures with an extension up to five meters. In a few places, these workings have extended as a chain, up to forty meters. In the eastern part, in the schist unit, a grayish black dolomitic horizon of 2 kilometers long and 300 meters width occurs. It narrows gradually and eventually wedges out. Larger scale mining was done in the central part of the Chah-Khouni deposit through an adit with a shaft, several pits and numerous other mining excavations.

Note on the mineral list: Bariand and Poullen (1980) suggest that the type locality of iranite is probably not the Sebarz mine as given in Bariand and Herpin (1963), but the Chah Khouni mine.
