Skarn iron-polymetallic (copper-lead-zinc-gold) deposit.
The Tawenchahanxi mining area is located within the Early Paleozoic Magmatic Arc of Qimantagh in the East Kunlun Orogenic Belt. The exposed strata primarily include the Ordovician–Silurian Tanjianshan Group and the Late Devonian Maoniushan Formation. The skarn belt formed at the contact zone between and γδ is the primary host stratum for Fe–polymetallic deposits in this region can be further subdivided into a lower marble–crystalline limestone member and an upper crystalline limestone–marble member.
The Tawenchahanxi deposit is divided into five ore segments (I, II, III, IV, and V) according to the spatial distribution of orebodies. Ore types include Fe orebodies, Fe–Cu orebodies, and Cu–Zn orebodies. Ore segment I is controlled by granodiorite. Most orebodies that occur within skarn developed along the contact between granodiorite and the Tanjianshan Group. Ore segment II hosts orebodies within the Tanjianshan Group strata. A NW–SE trending normal fault displaces the ore segment. Ore segment III hosts orebodies within skarn belts along the contact between granodiorite and marble. The scale of orebodies is relatively small owing to limited exploration. Ore segment IV hosts mineralization in skarn in the northern part and in marble in the southern part. The major ore types include Fe and Zn. Ore segment V hosts orebodies in crystalline limestone and skarnized marble.
