Old basalt quarry.

The formation of Panská skála is connected with the impact of the continental African lithospheric plate into the European one, which led to alpine folds in the Mesozoic and Tertiary and reactivation of volcanism in this landscape due to the formation of new faults in the crust. Through these fractures, magma could flow to the surface again. In the area of Panská skála, magma of basalt composition was pushed up about 30 million years ago, but it remained in a flue or supply channel and never reached the surface. The trapped magma began to cool very slowly, creating a typical detachment that can be observed today. In geomorphological division, the rock is part of the subunit of the Verneřický středohoří and the Benešovské středohoří district.
