The Gegental mining district is located in the Gegental. Pingen, dumps, shafts, all of them abandoned.

Iron mineralization. Mn-containing brown iron ores. Breccia structures are typical for the vein fillings.

Schwarzenberg Schacht and Gegentaler Schacht (in the immediate vicinity of the Innerste reservoir.)

The Innerste Dam is on the right-hand side of the road from Langelsheim to Lautenthal. At the end you can park on the right. The actual discovery site is west of the dam. You now follow the hiking trail towards the dam wall for about 20 minutes. After about 20 minutes, a path branches off to the left (in a curve). You now follow this path for about 500 meters to a game feeding area/hut. There are the dumps of the Gegental on the right.

A few years ago, when the dam was being restored and was therefore empty, there were also beautiful limonite specimens (Friederikenstollen dump) on the western part of the dam. When the dam is at low level, it is also worth having a look at the bank.
