Skarn-type iron-copper deposit, occurring in the contact zone between a Hercynian intermediate-acidic intrusive and Upper Ordovician carbonate rocks. The deposit consists of two ore blocks - Kekesala in the northwest and Aimusidaiyi in the southeast - that are about 1 km apart.
The Kekesala Fe-Cu deposit contains ore resource of 10.12 Mt iron-ore with an average grade of 36.41 % total Fe, 6.82 Mt copper-ore with an average grade of 1.53 % Cu, and ca. 480.5 t Mo. The main sedimentary rocks found at Kekesala belongs to the Hudukedaban Formation (O3h), which is ascribed to be Upper Ordovician and consists mostly of limestones with a small number of quartz sandstones, and the majority of these limestones have been contact-metamorphosed into marble and garnet skarn during granitoid emplacement. The Kekesala skarn deposit mainly consists of two mineralized zones: the Kekesala zone in the west and the Aimusidaiyi zone in the east. A total of thirteen ore bodies in the skarn have been delineated, and they are all distributed along the contact zone between the intrusion and the Ordovician limestone, with an average thickness of ∼15 m. Supergene argillic alteration has mostly impacted the near-surface exposures of these ore bodies, resulting in widespread oxidized ore.
