A relatively small but very high-grade tungsten occurrence/mine situated in the Zambezi Mobile Belt.

The main tungsten ore mineral is ferberite followed by scheelite. The area was first pegged in 1890; early production came from alluvial/eluvial ferberite sources. Later an underground mine was developed following several +/- parallel quartz vein systems with coarse ferberite crystals hosted in tourmalinized and silicified garnet mica schists of the Tshontanda Formation.

Some lodes were also mined in open pit operations. Almost generally, the quartz-wolframite veins and the surrounding host rock are quite rich in copper-bearing sulphides and carbonates. Locally tourmaline mica greisens have developed. Total production between 1931 and 1979 was in the range of 1,248 tons of wolframite concentrate at 65% WO3. The mine is currently (2014) being re-developed and new high-grade vein systems have been discovered.

Update 2015: The mine went into production in June 2015. The newly developed open cast mine will be in production for approximately 18 months. Parallel to that the old underground mine is re-developed. Life of mine is expected to be in the range of >7 years.
