An abandoned alluvial tin field
In 1945 the tin deposit was investigated for the possibility of extracting the topaz for the fluorine content (gem value was not considered). Clear topaz was recorded as being present as crystals and fragments of crystals up to half inch in diameter in the gravels, some of the stones being gem quality.
The gravel deposit was considered to be of "considerable yardage" perhaps "100 million yards with a maximum depth of less than 20 feet." But the topaz content was found to be less than 5% and not economical to extract.
