Iron meteorite, octahedrite (IAB-sLL, Og)
Fall, 23 Jul 1934; 10.32 kg
After a fireball accompanied by flashing lights and roaring detonations appeared, the fireball split into at least two pieces. Two days later cowherds recovered a single meteorite mass, a coarse-grained octahedrite (~7% Ni). Neumann bands in the kamacite, schreibersite, and troilite-graphite nodules are all common. Minor constituents also include various phases of Fe-Ni metal and carbides. Details of mineralogy, textures, petrography, and petrogenesis are found in Buchwald (1975).
31 meteorites are classified as members of the IAB-sLL subgroup [low-Au, low-Ni] of the Iron IAB complex. As of late 2014 Bahjoi is one of the two IAB-sLL witnessed falls. The main mass is at the Geological Survey of India in Calcutta.
