Named after a well, a few hundred metres east of the Great Northern Highway. The area covers the northern section of the Retaliation Goldfield, and parts maybe on Ninghan Station.

There has been a long list of exploration companies who have explored the area. Highly prospective and investors should proceed with caution. The companies have noted finding anomalous gold, copper, zinc, and lead at various locations. The historic Bonnie Venture gold mine and Wolfram King and Queen mines are also sometimes part of the leases.

It is part of the Yandhanoo Fold Belt, a thin sequence of metamorphic greenstone rock, flanked to the west by the Retaliation Fold Belt, and the east by the Ninghan Fold Belt. The Yandhanoo Belt is terminated to the south by intrusive granites. The lowest mafic sequence is the Singleton Basalt of tholeiitic and high magnesium basalts, mafic pyroclastic rocks, ultramafic rocks, gabbro and dolerite. The Singleton Basalt hosts a number of gold and copper-zinc prospects. These in the north-east section include Marlu, Richochet, Bang Bang and Black Well. At Yandhanoo Hills a portion of the basalt is faulted against BIF units.

Since 1974 the following companies have explored the area (the list could be incomplete): CRA Exploration (1974), Australian Selection (1975-1977), Oil Partners and Gold Partners (1984-1989), Sons of Gwalia (1990), Croesus (1991-1992), Crusader (2003), Silver Swan (2006).
