Old manganese workings.
The Kisenge deposit consists of high-grade supergene manganese oxide orebodies (grades of 38–51 wt%) and manganese carbonate protore beds (grades of 30–40 wt% Mn). A series of chronological studies indicate the deposition of the Kisenge area occurred at least within the 2.0–1.9 Ga range. The carbonate protore is mainly composed of rhodochrosite, which is very dark grey due to its high organic carbon content. Two manganese carbonate protore beds are separated by manganiferous garnet-bearing carbonaceous phyllite. The deposit belongs to the black shale-hosted manganese deposit.
Specimens are sometimes encountered in old collections but can not be distinguished from Kasekelesa material (see https://www.mindat.org/loc-5860.html).
The mineral list comes from the book "Les minéraux de Belgique et du Congo Belge" by H. Buttgenbach (1947) and from the cited reference works.
