Bauxite derived from anorthosite

The Barro Alto bauxite deposit records a polygenetic evolution in which classical lateritization is overprinted by fluid-assisted redistribution and biologically mediated processes. The profile develops from anorthosite through intense desilicification and formation of a porous gibbsitic framework, followed by aluminium remobilization and pore infilling that generate more massive facies.
