Developed by the Fortune of War Gold Mining Company starting from 1894. The fortune of this war was a comprehensive defeat. The company was formed in Melbourne with many small shareholders from this city, Adelaide and Perth. As was usual with these things, the shareholders were promised great riches. Machinery was ordered for the mine, which took six months to cart from Geraldton to the site, and in effect delayed mining for a year. Further, the plant was second-hand and suffered many breakdowns. The water used was so salty it quickly formed 6 inch cakes as hard as granite in the boilers. New machinery was then ordered, which limited the production through 1895. The mine eventually started regularly producing crushings in 1896. However, by 1897 it was found the gold did not go to depth. The directors tried to amalgamate with the neighbouring Victory United, but they refused. The company winding up meeting was even delayed when not enough shareholders showed an interest to turn up.

The Mindat co-ordinates are approximate, and mark this compact goldfield, the historic mine in the immediate area.
