This area consists of numerous shafts about two kilometres north of Cue, immediately east of the highway, and south of the small flat topped hill. Like much of this goldfield, the area was mined in the late 1890's by prospectors, and has seen little activity since. Mine names include Volunteer, New Volunteer, Volunteer South, and Volunteer South Extended. Crushings are reported from 1896 to 1902. Information was found of minor prospecting work until 1915. The Gem of Cue company took over the area briefly in 1899, being the only company based mining found. The area is a network of blue quartz leaders, with gold found in places.
