Ordinary chondrite, unequilibrated (H3.8-an, black; S5; W2)
Find, 1931; 241 g

A small meteoritic mass was found at Buwah. Suwahib (Buwah) is a highly shocked mass with moderately equilibrated olivine (mostly Fa~14) and unequilibrated pyroxene (Fs3-49). Well-defined and crowded chondrules (540 mm, ave. diameter) are dominant with small amounts of matrix and shock-melt present as a darkened background. Minor Fe-Ni metal and troilite as well as accessory chromite and Cr-rich spinel are also reported. However, Suwahib (Buwah) has drawn special attention because of the unusually low fayalite component of its olivine. Indeed, a few rare, uncharacteristically highly forsteritic grains (Fo~97) are reported. The primary and presently unresolved discussion centers on whether Suwahib (Buwah) experienced, say, a reducing impact event which lowered fayalite values in olivine or whether Suwahib (Buwah) and several other H chondrites with unusually forsteritic olivine (Fa<15) might not constitute an additional ordinary chondrite class.

The main mass of the Suwahib (Buwah) meteorite is held at the Natural History Museum in London.

What's in a name?? Suwahib (Buwah), Suwahib (Adraj) and Suwahib ('Ain Sala) are three Saudi Arabian meteorites recovered from three different places in the Rub'al Khali area. Indeed, Suwahib (Adraj) was originally considered part of the Suwahib (Buwah) fall.
