The name evokes pirate ships sailing the Caribbean, with Johnny Depp fighting off sea monsters to locate the hidden treasure chest. I am sorry to say nothing here could be further from the truth. Treasure Island in this case is a sandy, barren 'island' barely rising above the Lake Cowan salt pan. A few low salt tolerant bushes survive the extreme environment. The location is just off the northern shore of Lake Cowan.
Focus Minerals conducted rock chip sampling in 2010. It produced 8.53, 2.87 and 1.51% Cu and anomalous gold, and silver. The geology was described as similar to the Paris gold mine, 8 kilometres to the north. Nothing further is found after this date.
