Unequilibrated ordinary chondrite, brecciated (LL3-6)
Fall, 27 March 1940; 1.047 kg
Three pieces (841 g, 184 g, 22 g) of a brecciated meteoritic stone were recovered. The average composition of the olivine is moderately well defined (Fa27.8), but pyroxene is much more variable (Fs4-25 in one report). Chondrules and lithic fragments are well defined, but fine-grained, sometimes glassy and K-enriched matrix is more prominent than in many LL chondrites. While olivine, pyroxene, Fe-Ni metal, troilite, and the minor accessories (augite, chromite, merrillite, plagioclase) are more or less expected in LL chondrites, the odd potassium abundances in some of the smaller assemblages have attracted considerable interest.
As of mid-2015 14 witnessed meteorite falls have been classified as type 3 unequilibrated LL (very low bulk iron) ordinary chondrites, but only two of these falls — Adzhi-Bogdo (stone) and Bhola — have been classified specifically as petrologic 'LL3-6'. The LL3-6 label is a shorthand for describing mechanical mixtures consisting of unequilibrated (type 3), partially equilibrated (types 4-5), and equilibrated (type 6) components. Some post-shock re-equilibration appears to have occurred for some components after they were brought together by impacts on the original parent body [or by later impacts]. The components which eventually reached the earth, however, are still often unequilibrated on all but the smallest scales.
The main mass is held by the Geological Survey of India (Calcutta).
