The Iron Knob is about 14 kilometres south-east of Sandstone.

The lease area covers some 820 hectares.

It consists of a complex array of north-south, and north-west to south-east structural elements, traversing predominantly basaltic and ultramafic rocks.

Drilling found metabasalt and metadolerite with occasional quartz veining and shearing, at an old shaft. Gold was found in fuchsitic felsic schist at a maximum of 11 g/t.

There is a bleached basalt zone at 20 metres depth, proximal to the quartz, which are described as minor bucky quartz veins, 40 metres along strike from the old workings, with a maximum gold grade found of 2.85 g/t.

More drilling was conducted to the south-east and no gold was found. Overall the results were not encouraging and the exploration was abandoned.
