Doherty is a historic group of workings, 80 kilometres north of Sandstone, and a couple of kilometres east of the Sandstone-Meekatharra Road, in the central Barrambie Ranges.

Non JORC estimated reserves are 26 700 tonnes of ore at 23.8 g/t gold. It is part of the south end of the Barrambie Greenstone Belt consisting of felsic volcanoclastics, with minor metasedimentary rocks and banded iron formation, all intruded by felsic porphyry and granite. The belt in general has produced 27 339 ounces of gold from 26 700 tonnes of ore at 23.8 g/t, largely historically from supergene zones, and sulphide bearing quartz veins.

The banded iron formation contains grey chert and magnetite bands, with minor pyrite. Overlying this is fine grained quartz eye tuffs. Gold mineralisation is contained in flat east dipping quartz filled shears, in altered albite porphyry, and gold is also found on an anticlinal fold dipping 30 degrees north north-west.

The dominant sulphide is pyrite, with trace chalcopyrite and scheelite. The gold bearing quartz reefs have developed in north-south shears adjacent to banded iron formation. Nearby workings to Doherty is Old Camp and South Shear.
