The mine was located where the Burtville open pit now is. Indications are it was between the Nil Desperandum and Savage Captain leases. The mine was owned by T. Fox, W.B. Vibert, W.H. East and J.M. Mitchell. The mine was active from 1900. It was developed after nuggets were found on the surface. They also owned the Tower Hill Gold Mine.

By 1901 there were four shafts at 90 to 120 feet, on reefs 9 inches to 1 foot wide.

From around 1904 to 1912, the mine was worked by a string of tributers. Some included Worthington (or Warrington) and party 1904, Fahey and party 1904, Hackett and party 1905, Dungey and Pensmith 1906, Rohan and party 1907, Porter and party 1908, Mitchell and Party 1904-1908

From 1906 to 1912, the mine was owned by James Buckingham, who found little gold, until a small rich leader was discovered in virgin country in 1912. A tennis court was opened at the mine in October 1910.

The state battery from 1904 to 1906 records from the mine 666 tonnes of ore at 1733 ounces of gold. Up to 1906 the mine is thought to have achieved 4300 ounces of gold but records are incomplete.
