A wide arc of sub-economic PGE exists from one kilometre south of Ora Banda to the Mount Carnage area, about 12 kilometres west of Ora Banda.

The deposits were discovered by Carbine Gold NL across 1987 to 1990. It represents concentrations of PGE in laterite duricrust developed on pyroxenites, with some localised concentrations deeper in the regolith.

It is centred on the Ora Banda Sill, 2 kilometres thick, a high Mg mafic-ultramafic intrusive, with six lithological units. The pyroxenite and peridotite duricrust and regolith contains various coloured clays and saprolite, Fe nodules and pisoliths, gravelly calcareous soils, some moss agate, non calaceous red earth, and abundant silica and/or magnetite lower down.

Fresh pyroxenite has a broad zone of sulphide PGE and associated Cu enrichment (ie. chalcopyrite), with a relatively uniform distribution. There is a PGE enriched unit in the saprolite, close to the top of the peridotite, possibly the primary mineral layer. There is abundant PGE and Cu in the regolith, with increased PGE concentration in the lateritic residuum over the pyroxenite.

In the Mount Carnage area, platinum and palladium occur at 1600-1950 ppb, 2 to 8 metres thick. There are lesser amounts of Ru and Rh, with minor Os and Ir. Some enriched zones transgress the regolith horizons, the zones dipping gently south.

Pt is hosted by hematite, and some Pd by Al rich goethite. This may reflect Pt being easily weathered, leading to an early release and incorporation into hematite. Pd is more stable, incorporated into later minerals like Al rich goethite.

Due to the extensive and diffuse nature of the deposit, the Mindat co-ordinates show the southern extent of the arc only. There is no outcrop, or mine, the large pit to the north the Gimlet South Gold Mine.
