Klein Waterval is the farm that adjoins Spreeufontein farm. Both these farms were the sites of gold mining in the late 1800s. Unlike the alluvial diggings at Spreeufontein, the Klein Waterval diggings consisted of shallow excavations in the bedrock. It appears that these were sited on areas of the sedimentary strata that contained abundant quartz veins that might have been the source of the gold. The local Prince Albert Fransie Pienaar museum has a display of artifacts and documents detailing the gold field on display - see link below to the museum.
