Hot springs with high radium content, i.e., up to 330 kBq/m3 of 226Ra. This contributes to a very high background radiation in some areas of the city; the annual amount is up to 260 mSv/y. It is said, that the radiation level of the area is one of the highest natural ones in the world. Radium is said to substitute for Ca in travertine, which may also contain some thorium.
