Rágyincs- völgy

Coordinates are for the Dédestapolcsány town centre.

Geology: Carboniferous black shale, shale, and sandstone occur in the Rágyincs Valley, accompanied by several metres of yellowish-white, phosphate-bearing slope debris.

The phosphatic slope debris was discovered during the uranium exploration in 1973 (on the other side of the stream, 8-10 metre long, already heavily collapsed ditches were created); the black slate is found in the rock blocks standing behind the ditches as well as in the stream bed.

The phosphatic slope debris consists mainly of kingite; some species in the debris (e.g., koninckite and evansite) have not yet been confirmed due to the lack of appropriate instrumental tests. Without in-depth tests, many spectacular minerals found there cannot yet be identified.

In and around the streambed are huge boulders interlaced with quartzite, containing crystalline quartz (up to 2 cm), as well as clinochlore and goethite. Crystalline calcite also occurs in the alluvial material of the stream.

In 1997, Sándor Klaj found another mineral assemblage in the dark shale next to the trenches, from which the first Hungarian vanadate, volborthite, was determined.

Access: The site can be accessed from Dédestapolcsány, starting from the car park of the Láz-bérc reservoir to the research trenches on the other side of the winding stream in the Rágyincs valley.
