Allan Hills 88044 (ALH 88044) is a very small unequilibrated meteorite found as part of a joint 1976 German-American expedition. In thin sections well-defined chondrules and chondrule fragments are found in a fine-grained opaque matrix with chondrules accounting for ~90% of the constituents. Chondrules are predominantly olivine and/or pyroxene porphyritic types (PO, POP, PO) and reach diameters of ~1mm. Troilite and Fe-Ni metals cluster around chondrule rims and are also found both as interchondrule aggregates. Shock effects (level S1 — some undulose extinction in olivine) and weathering effects (level W1) are minor.
